Publishing, formatting, manuscript preparation, book strategy, print production support, publishing guidance, editing, proofreading, layout, cover coordination and related services are provided using reasonable care, professional skill and industry best practice.
Many publishing decisions involve personal preference and subjective judgement. While recommendations and guidance are provided based on experience and professional standards, the final decisions regarding the content, wording, design, formatting, layout, typography, imagery, publishing platform, print specifications and overall presentation of a publication remain the responsibility of the client.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Sue Kennedy does not guarantee commercial outcomes including book sales, business growth, publishing success, speaking opportunities, media exposure or any other financial or professional results arising from the publication of a book.
Client Responsibilities
Clients are responsible for providing accurate, complete and final content for all work undertaken.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- manuscript text
- names
- dates
- spelling
- grammar where editing services have not been engaged
- ISBN information
- acknowledgements
- copyright pages
- front and back matter
- images supplied by the client
- permissions for any third-party content
Clients warrant that they have the necessary rights, permissions and authority to use all content supplied.
Sue Kennedy accepts no responsibility for copyright infringement, intellectual property disputes or other claims arising from materials supplied by the client.
Proof Approval
All formatting, layout, publishing files, print-ready PDFs, cover files and other design work are supplied to the client for review and approval before final delivery or publication.
It is the client's responsibility to carefully review every proof in its entirety before providing written approval.
Written approval (including approval provided by email) confirms that the client has reviewed the files and accepts responsibility for the content and appearance of the approved version.
Once written approval has been received:
- the work is deemed accepted by the client;
- files may be prepared for publication, printing or delivery;
- any subsequent alterations requested by the client will be treated as additional work and may incur further fees;
- Sue Kennedy accepts no responsibility for errors, omissions or changes that were present in the approved proof.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- spelling
- grammar
- punctuation
- formatting
- layout
- page numbering
- chapter order
- image placement
- captions
- headers and footers
- hyperlinks
- indexes
- tables of contents
- print specifications
- cover text
- barcode placement
- author information
Where a client requests changes after approving final proofs, those changes will be quoted separately and completed subject to availability.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sue Kennedy excludes all liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or special loss or damage arising from the use of this website or from services provided.
Where liability cannot legally be excluded, any liability is limited, at Sue Kennedy's discretion, to:
- supplying the relevant services again; or
- the cost of supplying those services again.
Nothing contained in this disclaimer excludes any rights or guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
